Singapore Teochew Festival 2014
I am a Teochew and I don't really know the Teochew customs that well although those that I saw in the festival do ring a bell especially the wedding customs cos I followed it quite closely. haa... Watching the Teochew Opera brings back some nostalgic moments as I remembered grandma loves listening to them too.
I think I am more fluent in Cantonese than Teochew thanks to TVB drama serials when I was watching them at my maternal grandma's house during my growing up years.
I really hope yx could pick up some phrases if not all, but then again, she is a Hokkien muahhaa.... Anyhow, knowing some dialects would be good else we really become a jiak gang dang society. I wonder what dialect group will yx's future husband be? hmm....

Fire Station Visit @ Bishan Fire Station Open House
Thanks to a mummy - Amanda who took the initiative to organise a trip for the toddlers at the Bishan Fire Station Open House 2 weeks ago. It was quite an eye-opener not only for the kids but also for the adults as most of us never been to a fire station before.
At the end of the whole tour, it ended with a demonstration on how the fire fighters respond when the siren sound to alert all.

Making Play Dough
This is really long long overdue as we should have done this few months ago but ........ok so now we managed to make the coloured play dough that is safe for kids. (at last !)
Guess we put too much water and didn't put any glycerin to give it a better texture. Anyhow, yx had fun and so did daddy and mummy.....Yes we had "fun"cleaning up the mess. =}

Word of the Day 6: Toilet Seat
Toilet Seat = 马桶座圈
I always just use 马桶 but if we would like to be more specific then probably 马桶座圈 is a better usage, cos daddy got this all-in-one toilet seat for adults and toddler for quite a while and the other day I was speaking to yx in mandarin and suddenly my mind just went blank when I wanted to ask her to put down the toliet seat quickly as she was fussing around trying to hold her pee. In the end I just use the word 马桶 -

赶快坐上马桶. ha.... some workaround when I try to advocate speaking using proper English and Mandarin and not mix them in a sentence. More for me to learn ...... >.<

Lantern Festival
Materials:
- Toilet rolls
- Scissors
- White glue
- Coloured paper
- Ribbon
Yes, it' time for art and craft for mummy and yx so that yx can bring the lantern to school as part of the lantern festival celebrations. However, we have to use recycled materials and I didn't want to do the usual lanterns using recycled paper. Then I remembered that I had kept quite a number of toilet paper rolls last time as I knew that it will come in handy someday for art and craft. And so I came across this DIY toilet paper roll wall art while searching online for some ideas. Thus, I improvised the idea and make it stacked to a height of 6 (or 2 sets of 3 "leaves") and we used a total of 72 "leaves" from 18 toilet rolls.
Since yx love blue so much, she gets her blue flowers and orange seems to be the best contrast since we don't have enough pink or red coloured paper. So I did the structure setting while yx had fun pasting the flowers. There was actually a ribbon attached to the lantern but this photo was taken before the attachment and it came off when yx brought back from childcare. hee...
Well, it didn't came out as pretty as I imagined it to me, but still we had a great time, though it was pretty time consuming with the flower craft punch and all the pasting!
